Cash Corner No. 2

community in S Pamlico County SE of Arapahoe. Named because a store at the crossroads there sold goods cheaper for cash than on credit. See also Hollyville.

rises in W Henderson County and flows SE into French Broad River.

Cashie Branch

rises in N Jackson County and flows NW into Scott Creek.

Cashie Neck

swampy region of SE Bertie County between the Roanoke and Cashie Rivers opposite Plymouth.

Cashie River

(ca-SHY) rises in NW Bertie County and flows SE into Batchelor Bay and Albemarle Sound. One of the few rivers in the state to have its complete course in one county, Cashie was originally named Kesiah, the present name being a gradual corruption. See also Connaritsa.

Cashiers (CA-shers)

town in S Jackson County beside Cashiers Lake. Inc. 1927. Post office est. 1851 as Cashiers Valley; named changed to Cashiers in 1881. The origin of the name is uncertain, but there are many stories, some concerning a horse named Cash that grazed there. Other stories concern a hermit named Cashiers who lived there.

Cashiers Lake

an artificial lake in S Jackson County formed in 1922 on Chattooga River. Covers 30 acres, with a max. depth of 50 feet. Used for fishing, boating, and power generation. Named for nearby town of Cashiers.
