Place Description
Cary

town in W Wake County, settled about 1863 as the site of Frank Page's lumber operations and known as Page's Turnout or Page's Tavern. Later, when the railroad was built, it became Page's Siding. Inc. 1871 as Carey; named for Senator Samuel Fenton Carey (1814-1900) of Ohio, a Prohibition leader. The spelling became Cary as early as 1899.

Cary Creek

rises in W Wake County and flows SW into Chatham County, where it enters Whiteoak Creek.

Cary Flat Branch

rises in E central Avery County and flows S into Wilson Creek.

Cary Township

W central Wake County.

Casar

town in N Cleveland County. Settled about 1870 and inc. 1903, but long inactive in municipal affairs. Alt. 1,145. Intended to be named for Julius Caesar but an error was made in the spelling.

former township in NW Cleveland County, now township no. 11.

Cascade

community in NW Guilford County served by post office, 1892-1903.

Cascade Branch

rises in N Madison County and flows SE into Spring Creek.

Cascade Creek

rises in S Virginia and flows SE into Rockingham County, where it enters Dan River. Named by William Byrd, surveyor of region in 1728, for small rapids near boundary.
