Place Description
Stumpy Point Bay

an almost round bay on the E mainland of Dare County. It has a narrow entrance into Pamlico Sound on the SE side. Formerly a lake, it appears as Stumpy Point Lake on the Moseley map, 1733. Erosion opened the lake into Pamlico Sound.

community in SE Union County S of Lanes Creek.

Sturgeon Creek

rises in NE Brunswick County and flows E into Mill Creek.

Sturgeons Point

on Moseley map, 1733, in what is now SE Brunswick County between Elizabeth River and Walden Creek.

Sturgills

community in N Ashe County. Named for Sheriff B. Sturgills, who helped to obtain a post office that operated 1887-1953.

Styron Bay

on the W side of Core Sound about 1.3 mi. SW of the town of Atlantic and E of Nelson Bay, NE Carteret County. Named for a local family.

rises in SW Clay County and flows NW into Hiwassee River.
