town in E Chowan County. Inc. 1935, but no longer active in municipal affairs. A post office est. there in 1886 was first known as Centre Hill but was renamed for James N. Tyner (1826-1904), a former postmaster general. Tyner is still the post office name. |
Cerro Gordo |
town in W Columbus County. Inc. 1874 and named for the Mexican battleground where Gen. Winfield Scott, in 1847, was victorious. In Spanish the name means "big hill." Alt. 95. |
