Student volcano project
A third-grade student works on a writing assignment about Mount Vesuvius as part of a nonfiction study about volcanoes. The assignment blends a scientific understanding of volcanoes with a historical account of the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius. Such interdisciplinary writing tasks draw on skills deemed critical by the National Council for the Social Studies, including discipline-based literacy, multi-disciplinary awareness, and information gathering and analysis.
