People flee Ravana's burning city through gate in palace wall (Thai Ramayana mural)

Crowds of people flee out a gate from the white wall around Ravana's burning city on this mural detail at the Emerald Buddha Temple. These figures, mostly men, are painted in commoners' wrapped sarongs or loincloths and they have a wide variety of skin colors from light tan to dark grey.

This scene shows the chaos that Hanuman's fire creates in Lanka. Bandaged men are pressing out the gateway door, some running into unsuspecting people walking outside the city walls. A man carrying hanging baskets from a shoulder pole, a woman with a child, and another man with a bundle of clothes have been knocked to the ground.
