Mountain woman winnowing millet

A woman is winnowing millet spread on a bamboo mat called a maandro. Winnowing is an agricultural method for separating grain from chaff. It is also used to remove weevils or other pests from stored grain. Millet is an important staple grain in Nepal. It can be grown in the drier mountain terraces where irrigation would be difficult.
