Dry bed of the Kali Gandaki

A nearly dry segment of the Kali Gandaki River in Kagbeni, Nepal. Kagbeni, one of the main Hindu pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan region, lies on the left at the base of a mountain. This region—an extension of the Tibetan arid zone—receives very little rainfall because the northern peaks block the monsoon from the south.
