Climbing the Icefalls

Climbing the Icefalls

Mountain climber, Ciprian "Chip" Popoviciu, looks up at the photographer as he climbs a long ladder up a sheer and treacherous serac in the Khumbu icefalls. He is wearing a red helmet and sunglasses. His backpack is orange. Below, at the base of the ladder, an older ladder is seen trapped by the constantly moving glacier. The route through the icefalls is maintained by a group of highly experienced Sherpa called, "The Icefalls Doctors".
