Bascom Lamar Lunsford and George Pegram

This black and white photograph shows a musical performance by Bascom Lamar Lunsford (left) and George Pegram (right), both playing banjo, at "Singing on the Mountain" gospel festival, Grandfather Mountain, NC.

Lunsford, the "Minstrel of the Appalachians", was born in 1882, Mars Hill, North Carolina. In addition to the gospel festival, Lunsford performed for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, King George VI and Queen consort Elizabeth.
