These are the fortifications of the Amber Fort near Jaipur, India. The walls of the fort wind to an arched gateway down two sandy hills dotted with scrubby trees. At intervals along the walls are rounded towers. At the top of the hill furthest from the viewer is an especially tall tower. In the foreground is the top of one of the walls. The walls are made of stone and mortar. The construction of the Amber Fort began in the year 1592 and was started by Raja Man Singh I. The fort was built over the remnants of an earlier structure and was modified by successive rulers.
