Mexico's most famous painter, Frida Kahlo (1907-1954), a surrealist, is renowned for her self-portraits. After a horrifying streetcar accident, Frida was physically disabled. Her pain and constant hospital visits figure prominently in many of her paintings. She married Diego Rivera, the famed muralist, and together they lived in her childhood home, the famous "Blue house" in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Today, the house is a museum of her work, and among the most cherished in a city of many great museums.
