Moores Creek	rises in NW Pender County and flows S into Black River. Sometimes referred to as Widow Moores Creek in the eighteenth century; probably named for the "Widow Eliz Moore," who owned land adjacent as early as 1735. It was on the stream that the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge was fought on February 27, 1776, the first battle of the Revolutionary War in North Carolina. See also Currie.
