Coley, Henry D.

1819?–1887

Henry D. Coley, North Carolina state librarian, was a native of Connecticut. He was appointed state librarian in 1868 and held the position until February 1871. For thirty years prior to his appointment he worked in some of the largest bookstores of the South, including the North Carolina Bookstore operated in Raleigh by Henry D. Turner. Coley married Eleanor Stuart in 1845 and the union produced seven children.
