Family members bathe and do laundry at stream embankment

Family members bathe and do laundry at a stream embankment. On the right, a mother, her hair wrapped in a towel, and child wash clothes in the running water. They use a concrete ledge as their work table. On the left, one girl helps wash another's hair. Other children and teens are helping sort clothes or dressing after their baths. In rural Bali, as in much of Southeast Asia, outdoor family bathing is a routine social activity that combines work and play. Given the tropical climate, Southeast Asians often bathe two or more times a day, bringing laundry along when necessary. Women and children often bathe together, with men bathing separately before and after their day's labor.
