Centra plaza of Manzanillo, Mexico

Palm trees fill a grassy plaza. Houses climb a low hill beyond the plaza. Manzanillo is a large seaport town on Mexico's west coast. It was founded early after the Spanish conquest of Mexico and became an important ship-building port during the colonial period. The name of the town comes from the Manzanillo tree, which provided essential raw materials for building ocean-going ships. Today the town is Mexico's busiest port and a popular tourist destination.
