Eunice Austin
…I was the oldest. I had to be boy and girl.

Jacquelyn Hall
What do you mean?

Eunice Austin
I had to do work that a boy would ordinarily do, because my daddy didn’t have any other help to do that.

Jacquelyn Hall
What kind of work did you have to do?

Eunice Austin
I hauled hay and shocked wheat and just anything that was to do. I didn’t do much plowing. He never did think that was a woman’s place, and I didn’t do much of that. But I would always help plant the crop and do a lot of hoeing.

Jacquelyn Hall
What about your sisters?

Eunice Austin
They helped some, but I have a couple sisters that their health has never been good, so they couldn’t work like I did. They just wasn’t able to do it.
