Crossnoretown in S Avery County. Alt. 3,546. Inc. 1925. Settled about 1838 and named for George Crossnore, keeper of general store. Crossnore School, founded in 1913 by Dr. Mary Martin Sloop, since has trained mountain children and promoted crafts.
