Louis Ray Knob	NE Buncombe County.
Louisburg	town and county seat, central Franklin County on Tar River. Alt. 280. Authorized to be laid out and named Lewisburg, 1779. Named for French king Louis XVI, to whose court Benjamin Franklin (for whom the county was named) was then American representative. Both spellings occur in early records, the present form soon becoming the only one used. Home of Louisburg College. Produces lumber and fabricated metals.

Louse Island	NW Washington County in the mouth of Roanoke River. In a cluster of marshy islands, Louse Island is one of the smallest, approx. 2,000 ft. long and 200 ft. wide. It lies in the river between Rice Island and the mainland. See also Purchace Islands.
