| Island Borough | former town in E Rowan County. Inc. and authorized to be laid out in 1795 on the Yadkin River opposite the E end of Big Island, which see. Site is about 3 mi. NE of Spencer. Intended to promote navigation on the river, the town was to be built on land owned by Edward Yarborough. Little if any development took place at the site. |
