Negro Hammocksformerly two islands in S Hyde County in Pamlico Sound NE of Ocracoke Island, but now submerged. Known by the name as early as 1795. One of the islands was above water as late as 1910 and was called Negro Island.

Nellieformer community in W Haywood County on Cataloochee Creek near the mouth of Palmer Creek near lat. 35°37'40" N., long. 83°06'10" W. Settled about 1848. Named for Nellie Palmer, who in 1907, at the age of one, won first prize in a baby contest. Site now is in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is abandoned.
