Merchants Millpondcentral Gates County on Bennetts Creek; center of a state park. Formed about 1857 by Rufus Williams and known as Williams Millpond until about 1910, when it was sold. The new owner built a store there, hence the name. Approx. 3 mi. long. Max. depth 8 ft. Sawmill and gristmill formerly operated there, but now a popular place for fishing.
