Lawrence | town in NE Edgecombe County. Known as Killquick as early as 1837, the name by which it was chartered in 1883. Laid off in an area ½ mi. square from Richard H. Gatlin's "big new store." Name changed to Hickory Hill in 1885 and to Lawrence in 1889. Original Killquick charter repealed in 1893; chartered as Lawrence in 1901, but long in active in municipal affairs. |
