Picture-taking stall in Tijuana, Mexico
A vendor stands next to a gaudily-decorated stall set up for picture taking by tourists. A donkey decorated like a zebra stands at the front of the stall. Multiple signs stating "Tijuana Mexico 1984" adorn the stand.Tijuana is a large city in the northwest corner of Mexico. The city is on the US-Mexico border, directly opposite the US city of San Diego. Tijuana was settled early in the colonial period, but it did not develop an urban center until late in the nineteenth century in response to increased tourism from the US. Tourism has become Tijuana's largest industry, though since the inception of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994, many manufacturing industries have opened their doors in and around the city.
