Automobile Stuck in the Mud

An automobile stuck on a muddy road in 1909. The sign on the car reads U.S. Office Public Roads and American Highway Assn [Assistance]. As you can see in the photo, roads were not paved in rural areas. In response to the increasing amount of automobiles, road building grew.
