Known earlier as Vineland, but the Post Office Department would not accept the name because of possible confusion with the town of the same name in New Jersey. Named for its location on the edge of the longleafpine belt. A popular winter resort. West Southern Pines, inc. 1923, became a part of Southern Pines in 1931. Alt. 516. Sandhills Community College, est. 1965, is located there. |
