In the early 1900s, the lower ledge gave way, so that now the upper falls cascade over a smooth, 12 ft. rock shelf, and the water then drops 90 ft. at the lower falls into a rock-encircled pool at the head of Linville Gorge. Reached by foot trail near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Named for William and John Linville, killed by Indians below the falls in 1766. |
