| Kitty Hawk | town and summer resort in E Dare County on the S boundary of the North Banks. Inc. 1981. Former site of the New Inlet. Settled before 1790. Name probably is a variation of an Indian place name, as it appears on maps as early as 1738 as Chickehauk. At nearby Kill Devil Hill, which see, in 1903, the Wright Brothers made the first successful powered airplane flight. Alt. 9. |
