Currie | community in SW Pender County. Alt. 33. Settled about 1888. Named for John H. Currie, a director of the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley Railroad. Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, February 27, 1776, the first battle of the Revolution in North Carolina, was fought nearby. Moores Creek National Military Park, a 30-acre tract with numerous historical monuments and a museum, is at the site. |
