Stonewalltown in central Pamlico County on Bay River. Inc. 1857 as Jackson and apparently named for the owner of a local mill. Name changed to Stonewall, 1871, to honor Gen. T. J. "Stonewall" Jackson (1824-63). Post office est. 1877. Long inactive in municipal affairs. Alt. 10.
