Newtoncity and county seat, in central Catawba County. Alt. 996. Authorized to be laid out in 1845, inc. 1855. Named for Isaac Newton Wilson, son of Nathaniel Wilson and member of the General Assembly in 1842. He introduced the bill to create Catawba County. Produces textiles, furniture, hosiery, apparel, and paper boxes.
