Cherry Point Marine Air StationSE Craven County on Neuse River. Begun in July 1941; opened March 1942. On 12,000 acres, it is the largest Marine air station in the world. The Overhaul and Repair Department of the U.S. Marine Air Corps there is the largest industrial defense plant in the state. A small community, Cherry Point, existed there prior to the est. of the station. The town of Havelock is adjacent.
