Gilbert Townformer county seat of Rutherford County, 1781-85. Site, now abandoned, is a short distance N of Rutherfordton in the center of the county on Hollands Creek. Named for William Gilbert, owner of the land. Campsite for both sides prior to Battle of Kings Mountain, October 1780.
