Ellenboro | town in E Rutherford County. Alt. 1,046. Founded 1886; inc. 1889. Said to have been named for Ellen Robinson, daughter of the president (or engineer) of the Carolina Central Railroad. Robinson gave a bell to the school there with his daughter's name engraved inside. May have been named by Burwell Blanton Byers, owner of much local property, for himself and his wife, Ellen—Ellenburwell, which later became Ellenboro. |
