Sherrill's GapSee Hickory Nut Gap.
Sherrills Fordacross Catawba River between Catawba and Iredell Counties. Named for Adam Sherrill, trailblazer in the settlement of W North Carolina who crossed the Catawba River there in 1747. The passage over the river was used by troops during the Revolutionary War. The site is now under the waters of Lake Norman. The name appears on various maps dating from the eighteenth century through 1963.
