Severntown in NE Northampton County served by post office, 1889-1939. Alt. 59. Settled about 1833 and known first as Meherrin for an Indian tribe that had lived in the vicinity. Inc. 1919. Named for Severn Ayers, a stockholder in the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.
