Pop CastleW Vance County approx. 1 mi. W of the town of Kittrell. Popecastle Inn was est. there approx. 1734, and local usage changed the name to Pop Castle. Racetrack, cockpit, and tavern were adjuncts of the inn; use of the racetrack began during the Revolution, and the main building of the inn was dismantled after the Civil War.
