Parktontown in NE Robeson County. Settled about 1884. Inc. 1901. Known first as Gillis Station for Mrs. John Gillis, who sold land for a railroad station. When the railroad was completed, the name was changed to Parkton, probably from the fact that farmers of the surrounding area "parked" teams at the station to take the train to Fayetteville.
