Lynch Creekrises in S Vance County and flows S into Franklin County, where it enters Tar River. Appears as Linches Creek on the Collet map, 1770. Said to have been named for a Major Lynch, who was sent to Bute County (now Franklin and Warren Counties) by Governor Tryon in 1768 to collect taxes but was hanged by a mob of Regulators on the bank of the stream.
