Sunset Law

The Sunset Law [2], an act of the 1977 General Assembly [3]sponsored by state senator Willis P. Whichard [4], provided for the periodic review of specific licensing and regulatory agencies of state government [5] to determine which should be terminated, continued, or reestablished. Major state departments were not affected. The purpose of this act was to eliminate many statutes whose goals had been accomplished or that were deemed no longer necessary.
