Clintontown and county seat, central Sampson County. Authorized to be laid out, 1818; inc. 1822. Courthouse est. there about 1784 on land owned by Richard Clinton (1721-96), for whom the town was later named. Alt. 158.
Clintonformer town in SE Davie County (then Rowan) at the junction of South Yadkin and North Yadkin Rivers. Inc. 1818 by Yadkin Navigation Co. About 100 lots were sold before a panic in 1819 stopped work at the site. A post office existed there in 1822, but the town was abandoned soon afterward.
