Place	Description
Ervintown	community in NW Onslow County on the W limits of Richlands. Named for the numerous Ervins living there.
Erwin	town in SE Harnett County. Est. about 1902 with the construction there of Erwin Cotton Mills. First known as Duke for the Duke family of Durham. Name changed to Erwin about 1925 for William Allen Erwin (1856-1932), operator of the local mill. Inc. 1967. Produces textiles. Alt. 195.
Erwinsville	also known as Ervinsville, a former town in SW Cleveland County (then Rutherford County). Inc. 1808; previously inc. as Burrtown in 1800. Located near the mouth of First Broad River and the South Carolina line E of Ellis Ferry. In 1800 the General Assembly authorized 50 acres there to be laid out and sold in lots. Post office est. 1813, active until 1882. Town site later abandoned.
Eskota	community in S Yancey County on Cane River. Alt. 3,101.
Eskridge Cove	the valley through which Eskridge Cove Branch flows in SE Buncombe County.
Eskridge Cove Branch	rises in SE Buncombe County near Lookoff Gap and flows NW into Swannanoa River.
Esmeralda	community in NW Rutherford County on Broad River.
Ess-ee-daw	See Broad River.
Essex	town in SW Halifax County. Inc. 1891, but long inactive in municipal affairs. Prior to 1860 it was the center of a settlement of free blacks.
Essex Island	See Etacrewac.
