A Specific number of how many animal and plant species that have been recorded in North Carolina would be very helpful to this site. The list of plants and animals are much too small to represent all of North Carolina.

Comment:

True. The above list is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to provide links to the articles in NCpedia about specific species found in North Carolina. We appreciate your feedback. We do have an estimated number of different species in this article: http://ncpedia.org/wildlife/overview.

For further information, you may wish to explore the NC Department of Environment & Natural Resources's Natural Heritage Program's database. It has more comprehensive lists of plants, animals, and more in North Carolina. Their website may be found at http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/nhp.

Good luck in your research!

what are the most common forms of animal life in NC? I'm helping my son do a report for school.

Comment response:

Thanks for your question! Some of the profiles listed above may be a good starting place. The gray squirrel is our Official State Mammal and the cardinal is our Official State Bird. Both are found throughout the state as well.

Additional information about different species found in North Carolina may also be found on the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's website.

Good luck in your research!

I use this resource in my 4th grade classroom, and would like to be able to use/view/print the profiles in my classroom because we don't have enough computers for each student. Will this be ready?

Thank you

Thank you for posting your question. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission recently updated their Web site and it has a wonderful new look! Unfortunately our links to the individual profiles all broke, however. I just finished updating all the links to those profiles that are still live on their site, however.

Your question alerted me to the fact that our links had broken, so I thank you very much for that!

Let us know if there is anything else we can do.

Best,

YOU NEED TO ADD CRABS TO YOUR LIST! BECUSE I AM DOING A PAPER ON BLUE CRABS!

Comment:

Thank you for the suggestion! We'll add it to the list of topics to add.

In the meantime, the NC Division of Marine Fisheries has a page on blue crabs at: http://www.ncfisheries.net/bluecrab/index.html.

Good luck on your paper!
