I am trying to find an official record on the deaths that occurred at the Battle of Lindley's Mill in 1781/82. The person I am trying to locate is Major John Nalle who died trying to free the Governor of North Carolina.

Could you provide an article expanding upon the reasons some Highlanders choose to side with the Loyalists and others chose to side with the Patriots? I suspect that fear of a repeat of reprisals similar to that experienced after Coloden was one factor for the ones choosing Loyalist. However, I suspect there was a lot of peer pressure on the Patriot side as well.
